Commedia dell’Arte on Seabourn Odyssey

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Guests arriving to embark of Seabourn Odyssey’s maiden voyage are likely to be met in the terminal by colorfully costumed characters from the Italian Commedia dell’Arte, an improvisational performance style of indeterminate age that was formalized in the 16th century. Troupes of about ten characters created improvised performances around loosely sketched plots involving love (requited and unrequited), infidelity, greed, gluttony and other excesses, and often lampooning current scandals or political squabbles familiar to the audience. Seabourn Searches for the Right Bubbly

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

We are currently working with experts on site in Italy to select the perfect sparkling wine to use for anointing Seabourn Odyssey when she is named in Venice in June. The consensus seems to be a prosecco, since that varietal is grown extensively in the area of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene in the Veneto-Treviso near where Odyssey’s sleek hull was constructed at San Giorgio di Nogaro. That region is in the foothills of the Alps, and the cooler weather seems to create ideal conditions for the prosecco grapes. (more…)

The Lady Has a Name…

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

name 300x224 The Lady Has a Name...

The latest update from Neil Carney at the Odyssey shipyard….

As we all know Seabourn Odyssey will be named in Venice. But it is a proud moment to actually see her name spelled out on the bow. As you can see from the photo, the starboard bow now has the steel letters of her name spot welded in place. (more…)

Too Many Cooks? Seabourn Has it All Mapped Out.

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

What would Seabourn be without its renowned cuisine? A sadder, less satisfying place, that’s for sure.  For Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn’s Director of Culinary and Beverage Operations Tony Egger has been working with Corporate Executive Chef Jochem Lambrechts and Odyssey Executive Chef Graeme Cockburn to get ready for launch… (more…)

Seabourn Odyssey Blog Thanks Over 20,000 Visitors

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

We just noticed that the Seabourn Odyssey blog has been around for about six months at this point. And we have just over three months left until Seabourn Odyssey makes her (actual) debut at Venice. It’s been amazing to see how many of you have stopped by on a regular basis to check out the progress of Odyssey, read about the construction process from Neil Carney, see pictures, learn about nautical terms and so forth (How many of you?  How about 21,000?)  At this point, it looks like Odyssey’s sister Seabourn Sojourn will be arriving in the Mariotti shipyard in Genoa even before Odyssey leaves. She’s making great progress herself, and will follow Odyssey’s path across the Adriatic and up the coast of Italy. Hope we can get a picture of the two of them together!  We truly appreciate your interest and we thank you for your attention. We promise to keep bringing you more and more news as the big day approaches. We are so excited!
