A Visit to Borobudur in Indonesia

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Seabourn Spirit is currently sailing in some of the most exotic locations in the world, visiting many off-the-beaten path locales in Indonesia and Asia.  One of the most awe-inspiring stops is Semarang, Indonesia, an ideal gateway to the majestic monuments of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Borobudur.  Built between the 8th and 9th centuries with more than 2 million cubic feet of stone, Borodubur is the largest religious complex in the world. This man-made marvel is an ancient Buddhist site with immense stupas and statues, surrounded by jungle and encircled by active and dormant volcanoes.

Borodubur is a definite “must-do”, and guests sailing on our Indonesian cruises can take a shore excursion to visit this mystical site.  Seabourn Spirit Destinations Services Manager Nicola Kenny sent us a couple of pictures from a recent visit to Borodubur.

Sea Lion Catches a Cat Nap on Seabourn Odyssey’s Bulbous Bow

Monday, January 24th, 2011

This young sea lion isn’t sure where this funny new rock came from, but it makes a nice warm place for a quick snooze in the Chilean summer sun. The colorful whiskered birds in the foreground are called Inca Terns. The picture was sent by Bozi Copic, Odyssey’s Restaurant Manager. Odyssey left Valparaiso, Chile yesterday, taking a full complement of travelers on a “Patagonian Passage” cruise through the Chilean Fjords, around Cape Horn, to the Falkland Islands and up to Buenos Aires.

SEABOURN US HEADQUARTERS TO RELOCATE

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Seabourn has just announced some very important news, and we wanted you to be among the first to know about it.  Seabourn’s US headquarters will soon move from Miami, Florida to Seattle, Washington, where the company will benefit from the support systems of our sister-brand, Holland America Line.   The transition will be made over the next few months, and Seabourn will have a separate, dedicated brand management team in the new Seattle location.

For our guests, the award-winning Seabourn onboard experience will not change in any way.  Guests will still experience the superlative service of our same onboard staff and the professional and personal attention of our dedicated officers.  Seabourn will continue to be the ultra-luxury line our guests have voted the World’s Best, delivering everything you expect and more.  Quite simply, no aspect of your experience will change –not our ships, not our officers or crew, not our world-renowned cruise vacations.  The headquarters move will enhance the shoreside support areas of our organization, enabling us to focus more attention on what matters most: our guests.

We are confident this move is right for the company, and will enable us to continue to deliver the exceptional award-winning Seabourn experience and to implement future programs that we believe you will find appealing.

Check back often for more news about the headquarters move, plus updates and news from our ships and crews around the world.

Seabourn Spirit in Drydock

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

It’s not everyday you get to walk around and underneath a cruise ship.  Members of the Seabourn Spirit housekeeping staff did just that when the ship was recently in drydock in Singapore.  Here is a great photo of the team with the ship in the background.

Read All About It: Seabourn Sojourn in the News!

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

More than seven months after her debut, Seabourn Sojourn continues to receive positive coverage in the press. We’re so proud of all the staff and crew who work so hard to provide a stellar cruise experience for all our guests. Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.  You can read some of the reviews here:

“Clean lines, warm light and elegant design are the framework for the Yachts of Seabourn’s second next-generation ship, the 450-passenger Sojourn, sister ship to last year’s Odyssey, which made considerable waves in the industry. What fills the framework, however, is the friendly and near-telepathic service (if you express a preference in one venue, they will know about it in another), the extraordinary cuisine and a comfortable atmosphere.”

- Marilyn Green, TravelAge West

“While the food onboard this ship has been absolutely amazing, from room service to formal chef’s dinner menus, and while the vessel itself is the most beautiful combination of small ship intimacy with big ship amenities I’ve ever seen, what really has put Seabourn over the top for me is its service.”

- Carolyn Spencer Brown, Cruise Critic

“Like all the Seabourn ships (and like all real luxe vessels, for that matter), Sojourn is less about knocking passengers over the head with gimmickry, shininess, and nonstop activity, and more about providing a tasteful, understated venue where people who just want to relax can do so, while quiet, polite staff scurry around bringing you things: a cup of tea and a cucumber sandwich in the afternoon, suntan lotion while you’re out by the pool, a drink from the bar whenever you want (gratis), and even a moist wipe for your sunglasses, if a server spots a smudge.”

- Matt Hannafin, Frommers.com

”On our first voyage on the Yachts of Seabourn years ago, we selectively plucked our favorite nut, cashews, from a bowl of mixed nuts on the bar. From then on, every time we returned for an after-dinner drink, we were served only cashews.  OK, really nice touch.  But when we returned two years later and sidled up to the bar, the bartender quickly removed the mixed nuts and replaced them with cashews. Now that’s personalized service — and the signature of this ultraluxe line.”

- Arline and Sam Bleecker, Chicago Tribune

“The vessel’s small size endows it with a yacht-like sensibility and the ability to access off-the-beaten-path ports of call, while also providing extensive amenities including a range of dining venues and an enormous spa.”

- Laurie Kahle, Robb Report

“Once onboard, we immediately felt the warm embrace of Seabourn’s service. Cordial staff greeted us and assisted with our hand luggage and showed us to our suite. Liliana, our stewardess, materialized bearing glasses of champagne, canapes and fine soaps.”

- Georgina Cruz, SouthernCruising.com

“This Seabourn Sojourn cruise did not disappoint, in fact the exemplary personal service raised the bar in our expectations, so much so that we booked another cruise.”

- Donna Hull, My Itchy Travel Feet

“From the moment we stepped board Seabourn Sojourn, we felt the difference. We weren’t mere passengers — we were guests. We’ve learned the true meaning of pampering as the staff aboard Seabourn Sojourn has spoiled us with constant, yet unobtrusive service.”

- Linda Coffman, CruiseDiva

“The newest vessel in the Seabourn fleet, it lives up to the reputation that won the cruise line first place among small cruise ships (Conde Nast Traveler 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards).”

- Daphne Nikolopoulos, Palm Beach Illustrated
