Check out the latest update from Neil Carney at the Odyssey shipyard….
“The year has started with a touch of white in Genoa. On the first real day back after the new year break, Genoa was hit with a bit of Arctic weather, SNOW, which caused havoc with the local transportation including the airport being closed for most of the day.”

Seabourn Cadets
In a previous post, we mentioned the elaborate training regimen that we call the Seabourn Academy. It involves a mix of philosophical background, “book-learning” of standard operating procedures and actual on-the-yacht training with experienced Seabourn staff. We also mentioned that there will be “waves” of cadets coming aboard the three Seabourn sisters to prepare them for joining the Seabourn family on a regular basis. (more…)

More fantastic and exciting updates from Neil Carney, Chief Engineer…
“On a lovely, sunny weekend in Genoa we watched the construction block of the Atrium “Dome” being lifted on board. Fabrication of the dome was completed only the day before in one of the vast construction halls here at Mariotti shipyards (see picture below). The Atrium is just forward of the funnels and will provide an impressive focal point as you enter the Spa area from the open deck area (of deck 9) above the pool. It is 8 mtrs (25 feet) in diameter, stands approx 9 mtrs (28 feet) high at the rear and 4 mtrs (13 feet) at the front.” (more…)

The Seabourn Team pouring over table details for the main dining room.
Check out a few words from Adam Snitzer, one of our trusted blog correspondents….
“It’s amazing how much attention the Seabourn team is paying to Odyssey decisions and details. For instance, we are taking the dining experience very seriously. The show plate is a great example. If you aren’t familiar with a show plate, you might have heard it referred to as a “charger.” When you go to a nice restaurant, the charger is the plate that remains on the table when your appetizer plate is removed. We’ve had two meetings and there’s been a lot of work done between the meetings as well. We’ve been talking about everything from chair upholstery to lighting, to the ceiling height, to the curtains… all of these play a role in deciding which china to put on the table – especially the show plate, which to me really creates a first impression. Hello everyone. I am Barry Hopkins and I have the honor of being selected to be the Cruise Director aboard Seabourn Odyssey when she debuts next June. At the moment I am working with the entertainment and hotel operations team in Seabourn’s Miami headquarters, but shortly I will be taking off to serve aboard Seabourn Spirit for a stretch, to get re-acquainted with my Seabourn family and friends. Odyssey Hull being towed to Genoa, Italy
If you ever put together model ships as a child, you might remember how interesting it was to meticulously fit together the wooden deck, the propellers and maybe even the little lifeboats. Model ships require painstaking detail, right? Now multiply that by about 10,000 and you come somewhat close to the work required to build a magnificent yacht like Seabourn Odyssey. (more…)
