“It’s amazing how much attention the Seabourn team is paying to Odyssey decisions and details.  For instance, we are taking the dining experience very seriously. The show plate is a great example. If you aren’t familiar with a show plate, you might have heard it referred to as a “charger.” When you go to a nice restaurant, the charger is the plate that remains on the table when your appetizer plate is removed. We’ve had two meetings and there’s been a lot of work done between the meetings as well.  We’ve been talking about everything from chair upholstery to lighting, to the ceiling height, to the curtains… all  of these play a role in deciding which china to put on the table – especially the show plate, which to me really creates a first impression. If you surf online for reviews of Seabourn Yachts, there is a very common thread: Everyone raves about the level of service from onboard staff. So how does Seabourn continuously get honest, sincere and downright “gushing” reviews from their past guests? Well, they take training very seriously, and ensure their staff is completely versed on Seabourn’s incredibly high customer service standards. But with Seabourn’s expansion and the rise of luxury cruises in general, it’s challenging to always find the “best of the best.” (more…)

Perhaps the most spectacular and most difficult to explain part about dining aboard a Seabourn yacht is the level of service you receive. It’s really something that is best experienced in person, but I will try to illuminate as best I can. For instance, we discussed in the last post how Charlie Palmer will continue his great relationship with Seabourn by creating menu items for Odyssey. There are so many things to be excited about when booking a luxury cruise. The champagne, the spa treatments, the utter relaxation…..and of course, the food. Cruises are famous for offering a mind-boggling variety of food choices available all day long. The Yachts of Seabourn take dining seriously, and have awards to prove it. What awards, you say? Try the International Five Star Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences for 13 consecutive years. Additionally, Condé Nast Traveler designated The Yachts of Seabourn as the “Top Cruise Line for Service and Food” in 2006 and 2007. Furthermore, Gourmet pronounced the food “consistently excellent.” Foodies everywhere should rejoice, as this post will just scratch the surface of the culinary excitement Seabourn Odyssey will bring to the table.
